Name: Marcus Fiesel
Died: August 4-6, 2006 (exact day unknown)
Age at death: 3
Cause of death: Child Abuse
Location: Middletown, Ohio, USA
Marcus Fiesel lived with his mother for the first three years of his life. He loved flowers, Bob the Builder, and bubbles. He was a very active boy. His mother, who was the victim of domestic violence and reported being unable to care for Marcus properly, gave him up to foster care.
When Marcus's foster parents claimed that he had gone missing while his foster mother had blacked out from low blood pressure, a search was started, but Marcus's incinerated remains were discovered in a field and their story fell apart. Finally they admitted that they had wrapped him in a blanket, tied him with packing tape, and left him in a closet without food or water while they attended a family reunion for three days. It is likely that he died of the heat; temperatures in the closet may have reached 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius). When they found him dead, they burned his body and reported him missing.
Marcus's foster-mother was sentenced to 54 years to life. His foster father was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
A memorial to Marcus Fiesel has been built from the chimney used to burn his body, and a park bench has been dedicated to him.
