Rebekah lived in a group home. She loved balloons, bubble baths, and painting her nails.
On a hot July day, Rebekah had just returned to her group home from her day center. But instead of letting her out of the van, staff locked her into it and left her there for five hours. By the time she was found, she had collapsed. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
A month prior to her injury in the van, Rebekah's family had seen bruises on her body and filed a complaint with her group home. On the day she was taken to the hospital, there were more bruises.
Rebekah held on to life for a little over a month. She died August 30th.
Three workers at her group home were charged with injury to a disabled person by omission. Rebekah's family has also filed a civil suit.
