Name: George Philip Carter
Died: May 15, 2015
Age at death: 59
Cause of death: Neglect (Sepsis)
Location: Spanaway, Washington, USA
George had been living with a couple who operated a home-care business for the past eight years. But when the couple divorced, he was left with the husband, who had no license to operate such a business but continued collecting money from him regardless.
He was badly neglected by this unlicensed caregiver. When he was finally rushed to the hospital, unresponsive, he had severe, untreated pressure sores that had become infected. Instead of taking him to the hospital, his caregiver stuffed paper towels into the pressure sores. The infection spread, killing George.
The caregiver was sentenced to 18 years for second-degree murder.
