“Miss John”

Name: Unknown. Her father is named Samson John; she likely shared his surname.
Died: Some time after January 12, 2016.
Age at death: Child.
Cause of death: Neglect; death in restraint.
Location: Kerala, India.

This young girl, whose family name was probably “John”, attended a special school for disabled children. She was autistic and hyperactive, and staff often put her in a restraint chair.

On the day she died, she was tied in that restraint chair while staff left her alone in the room. When they came back, she was unresponsive. She was taken to the hospital on January 12, 2016, and died sometime thereafter.

It is not known exactly how Miss John died. She may have died from the restraints, or may have had a medical emergency such as a seizure, which she died from because teachers were not there to give her aid or call for help.
