Pepe loved Mickey Mouse. He had just started at a special school; that morning had been the first day that he had not cried when the bus picked him up, and he seemed to be happy there. He was learning how to talk.

When he cried about not wanting to watch a movie, three-year-old Pepe was beaten and stabbed by his mother’s boyfriend. While his mother tried to protect him, breaking her arm in the process, his 9-year-old sister ran to the phone and called police.

Pepe was taken to the hospital but was so badly injured that he died.

His killer has been charged with murder and assault.
