Location: Ozark County, Missouri, USA.

When she was a two-month-old baby, Savannah and her sister were put up for adoption by their birth mother and taken in by a family in Minnesota. It was an open adoption, and Savannah stayed in touch with her birth mother.

When she was about fourteen, Savannah’s adoptive mother re-married and Savannah had trouble fitting into the new stepfamily. She had been diagnosed with depression and once had to be hospitalized for self-injury. Eventually it was decided that Savannah would move back in with her birth mother in Missouri. There, she lived on a farm and enjoyed caring for the farm animals.

Savannah loved doing volunteer work, like serving food and doing the dishes at a Thanksgiving dinner for a hundred people from her community. People who knew her said volunteering made her truly happy.

Her birth mother was a volunteer firefighter, and Savannah had a passion for firefighting and would show up at the fire station to help out. Eventually she became a junior firefighter with the callsign Theodosia 17.

But Savannah’s new home hid a terrible secret. She was abused by her birth mother and her birth mother’s boyfriend, beaten and made to roll in the hog pen and wash in a filthy pond. When she deliberately cut herself, she had salt and alcohol rubbed into the wound. Her birth parents constantly complained about how much time and money they spent taking care of her.

Savannah was allegedly murdered by her birth mother. Exactly how she died is unknown because her killer burned her body in a fire that brought Savannah’s volunteer fire department to her birth mother’s house to discover her death.
