Tyla Cook

Teenage boy with short brown hair and brown eyes, in a neat collared black-and-white shirt, fair-skinned, wearing black-rimmed glasses and smiling.Name: Tyla Cook.
Died: November 15, 2017.
Age at death: 16.
Cause of death: Medication overdose.
Location: King’s Lynn, Norfolk, England, UK.

Tyla was struggling with depression, and perhaps dysphoria from being a transgender boy, when he attempted suicide by medication overdose.

On the way to the hospital in the ambulance, he fought the paramedics and was strapped down, then panicked even further and continued struggling.

Hearing this, the doctors at the hospital refused to let him into the hospital unless he was sedated, but refused to order the sedation because he didn’t know what other medication Tyla had been taking. Instead, he called in the boy’s psychiatrist, insisting that the psychiatrist be physically present rather than checking Tyla’s records over the phone. The psychiatrist took 45 minutes to arrive, while Tyla waited in the ambulance.

This delay caused Tyla’s overdose to become fatal. He died six days after he was finally, belatedly, admitted to the hospital.
