Name: Brandon Porter-Young.
Died: February 2, 2018.
Age at death: 18.
Cause of death: Murder (Stabbed).
Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Brandon was a high-schooler who played on the special Olympics basketball team and participated in the Best Buddies program, which paired him with a non-disabled student. He liked music and gardening. He was a quiet young man, but remembered for his smile and sweet nature. A good student, he hoped to get a job after graduation.
Brandon’s mother had been struggling financially, and they lost their home. For the last two months of his life, Brandon and his family had to live in a hotel.
Brandon was home alone when a fellow resident in the hotel stabbed him to death. Some time later, DNA evidence identified his killer as a violent criminal who had meanwhile been jailed on other charges.
