Name: Ann Marie Pomphret.
Died: November 2, 2018.
Age at death: 49.
Cause of death: Murder (Bludgeoned with crowbar).
Location: Warrington, Cheshire, England, UK.
Ann’s family owned a little land, on which they kept some horses. Ann loved nature and loved caring for the horses. She had an 18-year-old daughter. One of her favorite TV shows was CSI.
She was battling cancer and had just returned from a three-day stay in the hospital, during which her husband apparently realized how much easier his life would be without her.
She was in the barn with her horses when her husband hit her in the head with a crowbar 30 times, killing her. At trial he claimed that she had been verbally abusive to him and their daughter, and he had “snapped”. He claimed to the police that he had found her dead and even fabricated text messages to imply that he didn’t know what had happened to her. His story unraveled when Ann’s blood was found on his socks, the one article of clothing he hadn’t remembered to wash or dump. A few months later and he was arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to life.
Editor’s note: It should go without saying that death is no fair punishment for nagging and name-calling. Though the defense tried to convince the jury that Ann’s character flaws made it impossible for her husband to resist killing her, Ann’s husband was declared guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
