Details:
Kendrick lived in an apartment with his siblings, aged 7, 10, and 15, two of whom were also autistic. When his 15-year-old brother called emergency services, begging for help and saying that his brother was dead in the house with him, police arrived to find the children starving, the ten-year-old with broken bones, and Kendrick’s body, which had been there for nearly a year. Neighbors say they had been giving the 15-year-old food, but were not aware that he had apparently been living alone with his siblings. After Kendrick’s brothers told police that his stepfather had beaten Kendrick to death, Kendrick’s parents were arrested.

Mason Weston

Name: Mason Joe Weston.
Died: August 7, 2021.
Age at death: 11.
Cause of death: Abuse (Homicide; battered child).
Location: Fergus Falls, Minnesota, USA.

Details:
When Mason was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, his mother’s boyfriend initially said he had fallen, but eventually told police that he had slammed Mason’s head against the wall and kicked him. Mason died in the hospital. The killer pled guilty to second-degree murder, explaining that he had been angry at Mason because Mason had not done the dishes. He was sentenced to twelve-and-a-half years in prison, and may be released in as little as eight years, four months.

Zeus Cox

Details:
Zeus was “very active and full of life”. His family suspected he had autism, though there is no evidence he had ever been evaluated. He had been staying with his great-grandmother for several months, but was returned to his mother. In court, his aunt testified that she believed his mother was unfit and abusive, and used to hit Zeus and curse at him.

Zeus spent a month living with his mother and her boyfriend before he was found dead from internal injuries caused by a severe beating. His mother was convicted of murder; her boyfriend’s trial is pending.

Jallen McConnie

Name: Jallen McConnie.
Died: June 28, 2021.
Age at death: 15.
Cause of death: Homicide (Beaten).
Location: New York City, New York, USA.

Details:
Jallen lived in Georgia, but he was visiting his cousin in New York City’s Upper West Side. An ambulance was called to the apartment; medics found Jallen unresponsive, his body battered, and brought him to the hospital where he was declared dead. His cousin–who had allegedly beaten him for interrupting him while he was watching TV–was arrested and charged with assault, endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Joseph Barney

Details:
Joseph liked watching videos of subway trains. Monkeys were his favorite animal, and his favorite foods were pizza, ice cream, candy, fruit snacks, and Capri Suns.

Joseph, who lived with his mother and her boyfriend, was brought to the hospital and declared dead there. His body weighed 30 pounds, less than two-thirds of what a child his age should have weighed, and showed signs of battered child syndrome.

Joseph’s mother and her boyfriend have been charged with murder.
