Details:
Rashaad, named after his father, was called “Deuce” by family and friends. He was a recent high school graduate, a homebody who spent most of his days playing video games.

Rashaad was found dead, shot on the streets of Indianapolis. “They picked on a handicapped child, somebody that couldn’t fight back,” says his grandmother.

Ajin

Name: Ajin, son of Jishoy and Nitya.
Died: January 25, 2020.
Age at death: 6.
Cause of death: Unknown suspicious death (Found bleeding and unconscious after fight).
Location: Vellimadukunnu, Kozhikode, Kerala, India.

Details:
Ajin and his mother, whose husband had left her, stayed with his grandparents. When his mother came down with depression and had to be hospitalized, Ajin was left in a care home, a six-year-old boy housed with 13-14-year-olds. One morning Ajin was found bleeding, unconscious, and dying. One of the staff at the care home said that the boys had been fighting. The cause of Ajin’s death is unknown; whether from abuse by staff, assault by other residents, or simple negligence, his death was most likely preventable.

Justin Frey Jr.

Name: Justin Galatoire Frey Jr.
Died: October 17, 2018.
Age at death: 29.
Cause of death: Murder (Body found in the trunk of his car).
Location: Chalmette, Louisiana, USA.

Details:
Justin was kind, friendly, giving, and wanted to get to know everyone he met. As his mother remembers, he “didn’t have a mean bone in his body”.

He went to Catholic schools as a child, and then attended Weber State University in Utah. His hobbies included playing basketball and reading books.

Justin went missing and was found dead, his body stuffed into the trunk of his car. His murder has not been solved.

Justin’s mother believes that her son might have been targeted because of his kind nature and his disabilities, which included Asperger’s, OCD, ADHD, and depression.

John Davenport

Name: John David Davenport.
Died: September 13, 2018.
Age at death: 25.
Cause of death: Death in jail custody.
Location: Fort Smith, Arkansas, USA.

Details:
John lived in community housing with caregivers that came in every day to help him. Kenyon Savage, one of John’s aides, remembers John as “…being so happy and [having] so much joy for life.” John loved singing along to music, and his favorite television show was “Sesame Street”.

When he had a meltdown, however, another caregiver called the police for the second time in a week. Kenyon questions why the police were even called; he says that John was not a violent man; he might injure himself, but he would never fight anyone else except in self-defense.

Police arrested John for refusing to follow orders and spitting on officers when they began manhandling him. He was locked in a jail cell. When he had been in jail about two days, police say they simply found him lying on the floor with severe head injuries. He died the next day.

The cause of John’s head injuries is not yet known.

Shanequa Sullivan

Name: Shanequa Quanee Sullivan.
Died: March 9, 2018.
Age at death: 23.
Cause of death: Murder.
Location: Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Details:
When Shanequa was 11 years old, her mother was murdered, and her grandmother took custody of her. At 23, she was a small woman, only 4’11” tall. She loved social media. She was proud of learning how to use public transit. She was a creature of habit who did things the same way every time. Uncertainty made her freeze.

Shanequa worked at the Atlanta Airport as a janitor. After work, she always took the MARTA streetcars and buses home. On the day she went missing, a surveillance photo showed her trying to use her bus pass, and when she realized the card was out of money, leaving to return to the airport. There are also records of her making some calls from a co-worker’s phone.

That was the last anyone saw of her until her body was found in the river. She hadn’t drowned–she had been murdered.

Shanequa’s murder is unsolved. Her family is angry because police didn’t secure all of the surveillance video that might have shown Shanequa in the days after her disappearance. Because only a part of the video records was saved, the investigation may be handicapped in bringing her killer to justice.
