Scarlett was “a very beautiful baby, very strong and tall, with long legs,” as described by her mother. She was healthy but developmentally delayed, diagnosed with mild autism.
Scarlett’s mother, after being told by a doctor that there was no surgical solution for Scarlett’s autism, drowned her in the bathtub and claimed that it had been an accident. But later she admitted to drowning Scarlett because she “love[d] Scarlett but hate[d] autism”.
Scarlett’s mother was released after serving five years in prison.
