George, who lived with his parents in a suburban neighborhood, liked to walk and hike. Neighbors often saw him outside helping his father mow the lawn or taking a walk with his family. He communicated by means of a VOCA and often wore headphones, listening to music. He was very active and loved being outdoors, but was frightened of the neighbors’ dogs.

George had aged out of the school system and his mother told a friend that she had had a “nervous breakdown” from caring for him.

George’s mother killed him, then shot herself.
