At the age of four, Daniel was attending a new school, where he was learning steadily. He was beginning to speak in complete sentences and had, at age three, learned all all the letters of the alphabet. He often went to play at a nearby playground with his father.

Five days after his fourth birthday, Daniel’s mother drowned him in the bathtub, then wrapped his body in a blanket and turned herself in to police.

Daniel’s mother said that she killed him because he was autistic, she was sick of taking care of him, and she had gone $70,000 into debt for autism treatment.

She was sentenced to 15 years to life.
