Joseph’s family chose a residential facility for him partly based on the facility’s extensive network of security cameras.
Only a few hours after he arrived at a residential facility for people with autism, Joseph was dead. Staff restrained him, and he suffocated. The camera that should have held footage of Joseph’s death, staff reported, was broken.
Joseph is survived by his parents and older brother. An investigation at the facility turned up “no non-compliance issues”, and no one has been penalized for Joseph’s death.
