Details:
Jessie lived with his father and stepmother, but his father worked on an oil rig and was often away from home. The couple had video cameras set up in their home, so Jessie’s father could check in on his children when he was working.
On the last day of his life, the videos, which Jessie’s father gave to police, showed Jessie coughing up blood, in pain, and asking for water; his stepmother refused him a drink and locked him in his room. The next day she found him unresponsive and called paramedics. Jessie was taken to the hospital, but could not be revived. Initially worried by bruises on his body that were not consistent with CPR, doctors found that Jessie’s lungs were filled with blood and he had died from an untreated infection. His stepmother is charged with injury to a child.
