Name: Christopher DeGroot.
Died: May 19, 2006.
Age at death: 19.
Cause of death: Homicide (Burns).
Location: Albany, Oregon, USA.

Details:
Christopher, who lived with his parents, was locked inside his room. His parents set a fire in their home and left Christopher to burn to death.

Neighbors tried to rescue the young man, but they could not get into the room because the windows were locked and the door had been bolted shut with a deadbolt that could only be opened with a key. Christopher fought for his life, pounding on the walls of his room. Finally rescued by the fire department, Christopher was taken to the hospital with burns over 80 percent of his body. He lived for five days before dying of his injuries.

His parents pleaded “No contest” to the charge of criminally negligent homicide. They were sentenced to six months in jail.
