Michael Becht, known as Mikey, liked games of tag and playing with the neighbor’s dog. He was a shy boy, but he had befriended the neighbor’s six-year-old, Brandon, with whom he played “Whales and Sharks”, a modified version of tag. He carried a stuffed animal named Reja with him wherever he went.

Mikey’s mother poisoned him with a drug overdose. She also tried to kill herself and Mikey’s older sister Erica, but both survived.

Mikey’s mother is serving a term of 38 years for Mikey’s murder and Erica’s attempted murder.
