“Samauri… was a very special individual. He loved music. His favorite sport was Wrestling. He ALWAYS had a smile on his face.”

Staff at Samauri’s school had called children’s services multiple times because they were worried that Samauri wasn’t getting the medication he needed. Samauri, a diabetic, was arriving at school on Mondays with high ketone levels, a sign that he hadn’t gotten his insulin injections. His communication skills are described as too poor to allow him to advocate for himself.

Samauri was found dead on his father’s living room floor at the end of a five-day Thanksgiving vacation. He had died of diabetic ketoacidosis, which is caused when a diabetic has too little food or not enough insulin. Police are investigating his death.
