Details:
Aja was a high-schooler who liked history class and studied Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He was an introvert, quiet and thoughtful. He was good at art. He had three brothers, a dog, Jasmine, and a cat, Cyrus. He was a fan of Asian culture, Minecraft, Doctor Who, and Star Trek, and read comic books.

Aja’s older brother Zack preceded him in death when he ran into the road to save the life of the Cyrus the cat, who survived the accident.

Aja’s 18-year-old brother stabbed him in the abdomen; Aja tried to run to a neighbor’s house for help and collapsed on the front porch. The neighbor spotted him and called emergency services; Aja was taken to the hospital and died there.

Had he survived, his mother says, he would already have forgiven his brother. “He was a child’s spirit… I used to call him my little genius… he climbed before he walked.”

Aja’s 23-year-old brother Jeremiah says this about him:

A tragedy occured today. My brother Aja was stabbed and subsequently passed away from his injuries. He was 16 years old and such a bright, shining star.

Aja loved legos and could take the most hodge podge handful of them and build the most incredible masterpieces. He also enjoyed anime and video games. He was in the 10th grade at Spartanburg High School and was looking forward to going to college for Mechatronics.

Aja was so brilliant. He could have been or done anything he wanted to be or do. He is a sweet soul. He will be sorely missed.

Aja’s killer was declared incompetent to stand trial and jailed pending mental health treatment. He committed suicide while in jail in 2017.
