Name: Terrance Cottrell, Jr.
Died: Aug. 25, 2003.
Age at death: 8.
Cause of death: Suffocation during exorcism.
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
Details:
Terrance was diagnosed with autism when he was two years old. He was a boisterous child who often made noise and did not stay in his seat.
For the three weeks before his death, Terrance’s mother took him to church three times a week for special prayer services, hoping to cure his autism. The pastor at the church conducted an exorcism, during which four adults pinned the boy to the ground, compressing his chest and neck and preventing him from breathing. Terrance died of suffocation.
The minister involved has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years and is now banned from performing further exorcisms.
